Google Drive is a cloud storage service…

Essentially, it’s a hyped up version of Google Docs. You can store your documents, photos, music, videos, etc. all in one place. It syncs with your mobile devices and your computer, so if you make a change from one gadget, it will automatically show up if you were to access it elsewhere.

The 2-Step verification will add an additional layer of security to your Google account. In addition to your username and password, you’ll need to enter a code that Google will send you via text or voice message upon signing in.

2-step verification drastically reduces the chances of having the personal information in your Google account stolen by someone else. Why? Because hackers would have to not only get your password and your username, they’d have to get a hold of your phone.

There are a number of ways to do this with cloud computing, in this article we’ll cover a few of them.

PaaS

You could use a Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) to develop applications for your business. There is a growing list of companies offering PaaS services, some of the more popular being Google (Google Apps Engine), Amazon (Amazon Beanstalk), and Microsoft (Microsoft Windows Azure). PaaS services lets you focus on development, usually promoting rapid application development and testing. PaaS has a lot of Buzz going around for it, and it is especially useful for developers who want move their workspace / officespace to the “cloud.”

Leased Virtual Server

You could lease a virtual server from a company. Virtual servers have been around for a while. They offer a “hands-off” approach to hardware where you define what you need and pay appropriately (sometimes disproportionately) and forget about ever having to maintain it. It’s a feasible solution that offers a little more control than PaaS, however, virtual servers generally share a hardware platform, and at times, you really notice your neighbors. Linode and Amazon are two of the more popular virtual server companies.

Leased Dedicated Server

You could lease a dedicated server from a company which give yous a mix of advantages and options not always available to those using leased virtual servers. Primarily, you have full access to the hardware resources of your server (no more neighbors) and you have a wider range of platforms / operating systems to choose from, however expect to pay considerably more for these services. Leased dedicated servers have been around for a while and aren’t hard to track down.

Collocation

You could collocate your own hardware platform at collocation facility or data-center. It’s a tricky thing to balance when deciding between a leased dedicated server or just purchasing your hardware outright and collocating it; with collocation, you get the advantages of a leased dedicated server, however, you don’t have to pay for the cost of leasing the hardware. The problem is, you are now responsible for maintaining that hardware.
